Senate Elections: Nomination Papers Scrutiny Scheduled for Tuesday

Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced that the scrutiny of nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections, covering forty-eight vacant seats, is set to take place on Tuesday. This step marks a critical phase in the preparation for the elections, ensuring that all candidates meet the required criteria to contest.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, following the scrutiny process, a revised list of candidates will be issued on the 26th of this month. Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nomination papers by the 27th. The elections are scheduled across various categories, including general seats, seats for women, technocrats, Ulema, and non-Muslims, reflecting the diverse representation within the Senate.

In the federal capital, members of the National Assembly are tasked with electing Senators for one general seat and one seat designated for technocrats and Ulema. Meanwhile, members from the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan will elect senators for seven general seats, two seats for women, and two seats for technocrats including Ulema from each province. Additionally, one seat for non-Muslims from both Punjab and Sindh provinces is also up for election.

The polling for these Senate seats is scheduled to be held on the second of next month, moving Pakistan a step closer to completing its legislative body’s composition. This election is significant, as it not only fills the vacant seats but also serves as a measure of the political dynamics within the country.
