Seminar in Muzaffarabad Calls for International Intervention in Kashmir Dispute

Muzaffarabad, A seminar held in Muzaffarabad on Saturday called on the international community to take an active role in resolving the Kashmir dispute to ensure regional peace and respect for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. The event, titled “From Amritsar Treaty to Abrogation: Kashmir’s Journey for Self-Determination and Peace,” brought together scholars, activists, and locals to discuss the historical and ongoing struggles faced by the people of Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Peace and Justice Organization (JKPJO) and unfolded in two sessions that explored the impacts of the Treaty of Amritsar and the continuous challenges under various rules, including the recent revocations of Articles 370 and 35A by the Indian government.

Speakers at the seminar, including JKPJO Chairman Tanveer-ul-Islam, highlighted the Treaty of Amritsar’s role in establishing Jammu and Kashmir as a state under oppressive rule, leading to prolonged suffering and denial of basic rights for the Kashmiri people. The seminar also focused on the atrocities endured by Kashmiris from the Dogra dynasty to the present day, including systemic discrimination and human rights abuses.

Prominent figures like Professor Shahid Hussain Mir and journalist Khizar Hayat Abbasi condemned the historical and ongoing injustices faced by the Kashmiri population, emphasizing the need for international intervention to support their struggle for freedom and self-determination.

The event concluded with a strong appeal to the global community to recognize the gravity of the situation in Kashmir and to contribute towards finding a peaceful and just solution. The call for solidarity with the Kashmiri people was a central theme, with participants expressing hope for a future where Kashmiris can exercise their rights freely.

The seminar serves as a critical reminder of the ongoing conflict in Kashmir and the importance of international support in addressing this longstanding issue. It underscores the need for a collective effort to end the cycle of violence and oppression and to pave the way for peace and self-determination in the region.
