Islamabad, The returning officers have officially released the final list of candidates for the upcoming elections to fill 48 vacant seats in Pakistan’s Senate. This development marks a significant phase in the country’s electoral process, paving the way for the scheduled voting.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Election Commission reported that 147 candidates initially submitted their nominations for the available Senate seats. From this pool, 18 candidates have already been elected unopposed, with seven from both Punjab and Balochistan provinces securing positions in the general quota. Additionally, two female candidates and two from the Ulema or technocrat quota have also secured seats without contest.
The elections for the remaining 30 seats are set to occur on Tuesday, as outlined by the Election Commission’s schedule. This event is a crucial aspect of Pakistan’s democratic process, reflecting the diverse political landscape of the country and the ongoing efforts to ensure representation in its legislative bodies.
