Concerns Raised Over Safety in Custody Following Mukhtar Ansari’s Death

Lucknow, The death of Mukhtar Ansari, a prominent jailed Muslim politician in Uttar Pradesh, has sparked widespread concern and criticism, with political figures questioning the safety and integrity of the judicial and custodial system in the state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Ansari was declared dead from a cardiac arrest at Banda hospital, although his family alleges he was slowly poisoned in jail. His death has intensified scrutiny over the treatment of prisoners, particularly after the live-TV killing of another Muslim politician in Uttar Pradesh last year.

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav expressed alarm over the circumstances of Ansari’s death, highlighting a broader fear of victimization in custody and accusing the current administration of fostering a climate of terror. Statements from other opposition leaders, including RJD MP Manoj Jha and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, underscored concerns of escalating lawlessness and governmental anarchy in the state.

The calls for a thorough investigation into Ansari’s death, advocated by Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati and others, reflect the growing demand for accountability and transparency within Uttar Pradesh’s custodial and judicial systems.
