Indian Lawyers Call on Chief Justice to Address Judicial Blackmailing

New Delhi, A significant number of India’s top lawyers have collectively voiced their concerns over attempts to blackmail the judiciary, directing a letter to the Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, urging him to evaluate and address these issues.

According to Kashmir Media Service, over 600 legal professionals, including prominent figures such as senior advocate Harish Salve and Bar Council of India chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra, have reached out to the Chief Justice. In their letter, they accuse a specific group with vested interests of attempting to exert undue pressure on the judiciary and tarnish the reputation of the courts, utilizing baseless arguments and outdated political motives.

The letter highlights how these alleged blackmail tactics become particularly apparent in cases related to political figures and corruption allegations, posing a severe risk to the integrity of the courts and, by extension, India’s democratic principles. The lawyers argue that such maneuvers undermine public confidence in judicial proceedings and threaten the foundation of legal governance.

Emphasizing the critical role of the judiciary in maintaining democratic norms, the lawyers expressed their full support for the judicial system. They called upon Chief Justice Chandrachud’s leadership to navigate these challenges, safeguarding the judiciary’s strength, respect, and transparency. Their letter ends with a pledge of solidarity with the judiciary, affirming their readiness to uphold the principles of justice and legality amidst these troubling attempts to manipulate judicial outcomes.
