World urged to take cognizance of HR abuses in IOK

Srinagar, December 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has appealed to the international community to take cognizance of gross human rights violations perpetrated by Indian troops and police in the territory.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was addressing a seminar, which was organized by the APHC in Islamabad town, today, in connection with the Human Rights Week. He said that India had stationed over seven hundred thousand troops and paramilitary personnel in the occupied territory who were committing atrocities against the Kashmiris to suppress their just liberation struggle. The APHC Chairman said that peace would continue to elude South Asia until the Kashmir dispute was resolved in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.

The Mirwaiz castigated the puppet authorities for placing the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, under house arrest repeatedly. Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Zafar Akbar Butt, Javed Ahmed Mir, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Syed Saleem Gilani, Hakeem Abdur Rasheed, Ghulam Hassan Majrooh and other leaders also addressed the function.

The Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir at a meeting in Srinagar decided to postpone its rally, which was scheduled to be held at Municipal Park in Srinagar, tomorrow, due to continued house arrest of the party Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani and police crackdown against the party leaders and youth. Syed Ali Gilani was scheduled to address the rally.

The Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in a statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the brutal assault on illegally detained party leader, Zahoor Ahmad Butt, in Kathua jail. He said that Zahoor Ahmad Butt was critically injured after he was attacked by some goons inside the jail at the behest of the jail authorities.

APHC leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Ghulam Ahmed Mir, in their separate statements deplored the silence of the United Nations over the gross human rights abuses being perpetrated by Indian forces in the occupied territory.

Hurriyet leader, Zamruda Habib, addressing a youth conference in Srinagar urged the Kashmiri youth to take the Kashmir cause forward in its right perspective.
