Islamabad, The World Bank has allocated $149.7 million to fund two pivotal projects in Pakistan, aimed at advancing the nation’s digital infrastructure and enhancing its flood defense systems. This significant financial endorsement underscores a strategic initiative to promote sustainable development and resilience in key sectors of the Pakistani economy.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors sanctioned the allocation to bolster Pakistan’s digital and environmental fortitude. The Digital Economy Enhancement Project, receiving $78 million, is designed to broaden the scope and efficiency of digital public services, enhancing the accessibility and quality of online services for individuals and businesses across the country.
Simultaneously, the World Bank’s commitment includes substantial support for the Sindh Barrages Improvement Project, with an investment aimed at fortifying flood resilience. This initiative will focus on improving the operational reliability, safety, and management of Sindh’s barrage systems, crucial for mitigating the impacts of flood-related disasters and ensuring sustainable water management in the region.
