Women and Minorities Are My Constituency: Prime Minister

Islamabad: “I have always said that women and minorities are my constituency and I have been proven right when a woman chose to stand in the witness box to defend me in the court of law,“ Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani stated this while talking to Mir Israrullah Zehri, Federal Minister for Food Security and Research, MNAs Niaz Ahmad Mela, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, and Tariq Anees who called on the Prime Minister at the PM House today.

Earlier, the Prime Minister expressed these views in his speech he delivered to a ceremony held in connection with International Women Day at the Convention Centre. The Parliamentarians congratulated the democratic government under the leadership of the Prime Minister for holding Senate elections in which the PPP and the coalition partners emerged as the biggest alliance securing more than two-third majority in the Upper House.

They expressed the hope that this parliamentary strength would be used to strengthen democratic institutions in the country in accord with the aspirations of the people. They said that newly elected Senators would play their effective role in redressing the grievances of the smaller federating units of the country.

The Parliamentarians were also appreciative of the electoral performance of Pakistan People’s Party and its allied parties in the recently held bi-elections in which they secured maximum number of seats despite calls given by some elements not to participate in the electoral process.

They extended their heart-felt felicitations to the Prime Minister on the victory of Syed Ali Mausa Gilani with a big margin, which, they said, indicated people’s confidence in the leadership of the Prime Minister.

Mir Israrullah Zehri advocated the cause of solar tube well pumps, which would be cost effective, save energy and eliminate subsidy being given to the tube wells being run on electricity. MNA Tariq Anees requested for the release of remaining funds for Shakargarh and Fatehpur-Manghri bridges.

He also said that un-served areas of his constituency may also be provided gas. Sardar Saleem Haider invited the Prime Minister to visit Fatehjang to inaugurate the completed projects. The Prime Minister accepted the invitation and promised to visit the city at his earliest convenience.
