WHO declares monkeypox a global emergency amid surge in cases

The World Health Organization has declared the monkey pox outbreak in more than 70 countries an emergency of international concern.

At a media briefing in Geneva, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said we have an outbreak that has spread around the world rapidly through new modes of transmission about which we understand too little and which meets the criteria in the international health regulations.
