We need to protect our youth same as our nukes: Sharmila Farooqui

Karachi, June 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Culture and Tourism Sharmila Farooqui said that our youth is our assets they have to steer the country in near future we need to protect them same as we did for our nuclear bombs. Such events and programs should continue for the attainment of durable peace in Karachi and country at large. She opined that peace can only be achieved by peaceful methods.

This she said while addressing the summit on “Preventive Youth Violence in Karachi” organized by the international NGO Search for Common Grounds. Youth belonging to different ethnicities attended the Karachi Peace Kids Networking Summit under the I AM KARACHI campaign to express their views on how they can contribute to the peace in city.

The summit engaged Karachi youth from across dividing lines to showcase how peace can be attained without the use of violence. The event featured a wonderful theatre performances from the youngsters; as well as dialogue and storytelling, all framed around the theme of peace. The youngsters spread the message that different ethnicities living at a single place adds life, colour and vibrancy to the overall look of the city called Karachi.

The event was organized by Search for Common Ground Pakistan and attended by PTI leader Erum Butt, Prof Dr. Seemi Naghmana and other respectable persons from media, Civil Society, Academia, government officials and other stakeholders. The Summit featured speeches on peace from youngsters trained by SFCG from 5 target towns of Saddar, Gulshan, Lyari, Korangi and Orangi.

SFCG trained 150 youngsters in a leadership program focused on peace-building, and conflict transformation. Sharmila Farooqui highly appreciated the effort by Search for Common Grounds (SFCG) and congratulated the youth for their efforts in promoting peace in society and transforming conflicts.
