UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy calls on the Prime Minister Gilani
Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani highly commended the outstanding contribution to the earthquake and Flood relief efforts by Turkey and by Ambassador Soysal, the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for assistance to Pakistan.
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the personal efforts of Ambassador Rauf Engin Soysal, in this context when he paid a farewell call on him before taking up his new position as Turkey’s Ambassador to the Council of Europe.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his gratitude for the visit of the UN Secretary General and the President of Turkey Mr. Erdogan to Pakistan after the floods in 2010. The Turkish leadership had made tremendous contributions for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected people.
Their sincere gesture of solidarity is etched in our minds and has further endeared the people of Turkey to the people of Pakistan. “Turkey is a special friend of Pakistan. We feel extremely close to our friends and brothers in Turkey”, the Prime Minister said.
Echoing similar sentiments, Ambassador Soysal said that he considered Pakistan as his own country and the leadership of Pakistan as his own leadership. The Turkish people had tremendous respect for Pakistan and its people. During his tenure, the Ambassador said, the confidence reposed in him by the people and the Government of Pakistan had made his stay in Pakistan extremely fruitful and result oriented. This was reflective of the special relationship between the two countries.
