UN chief urged to play role in Kashmir settlement

Srinagar, December 29, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has called upon the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon to play his role in resolving the Kashmir dispute as per relevant resolutions of the World Body.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the UN on several occasions had advocated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be given a chance to decide their future by themselves. He pointed out that the resolution passed on 5th January in 1949 clearly stated that a plebiscite should be held in the territory under the supervision of international community and the right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir should be respected.

The veteran leader maintained that India was bound to co-operate with the global community in holding the referendum in the territory. APHC leader, Syed Bashir Andrabi during his visit to flood-affected villages in Pulwama appealed to the international community to extend full cooperation for reconstruction and rehabilitation of calamity hit areas in the territory.

The prominent Kashmiri activists from different parts of the United Kingdom during a meeting at Birmingham decided to work in an organised way to promote the Kashmir cause at all levels. Kashmiri leader, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, speaking on the occasion, declared that Kashmir was not a border dispute, but was the question of right to self-determination, promised to the people of Kashmir by the United Nations.
