Syed Ali Gilani says article 370 is a golden chain

Srinagar, July 13, 2012 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, while terming the Article 370 of Indian constitution as a golden chain tied around the neck of Kashmiris, has said that Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) are integral part of Kashmiri society and his forum is not against their return.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Article 370 of Indian constitution is like a golden chain, which has been tied around the necks of Kashmiris. The Delhi rulers have been using this golden chain as a ‘Lolly Pop’ to fool Kashmiris. This chain has no significance for Kashmir.” He was reacting to the puppet Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah’s statement that Pakistan had gifted part of Kashmir to China.

The veteran leader said, except India, both China and Pakistan support the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. “He (Omar) knows that New Delhi has problems with China and as such made the statement to please people in Delhi,” he said, adding, “It is India which, is creating hurdles in providing fundamental rights to Kashmiris.”

“People like Omar raise Kashmir issue only for vote bank politics. Otherwise, they consider Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir as final. They are only interested in power,” he added.

On the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the occupied territory, Syed Ali Gilani said that his forum had never been against their return, but it was against settling them in separate settlements, which was an attempt to divide Kashmir on ethnic and religious basis.

He said that India was trying to malign the Kashmir movement by giving it a communal colour. “For this purpose, exodus of KPs from Kashmir was encouraged in 1990s and when this weapon lost its utility, the return of KPs is being made conditional with their settlement in separate quarters. This is being done to hoodwink the international community and project the Kashmir dispute as a communal problem,” he pointed out.

He appealed to the Kashmiri Pandits not to fall prey to the propaganda unleashed by the Indian government. “Pandits are not only an integral part of our society but they are our brothers. If they return, the Muslims will welcome them back,” he stated.
