Supreme Court hears CMA no. 968 of 2012 in civil petition no. 987-989 OF 2011

Islamabad: A three member bench headed by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Chief Justice of Pakistan and comprising other two members namely Hon’ble Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Hon’ble Mr.Justice Tariq Parvez heard C.M.A. No. 968 of 2012 in Civil Petition No. 987-989 of 2011 (For implementation of the judgment of this Court, 19.10.2011 passed in CPs. Nos. 987-989/2011). After hearing the counsel for the petitioners and the respondents in the case, the bench passed the following order:-

“Chairman, Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees has appeared and states that he would take all necessary steps including coercive to ensure implementation of the 7th Wage Award, 2001 because this Court had already dismissed the Petitions vide reported judgment in the case of All Pakistan Newspapers Society v. Federation of Pakistan (PLD 2012 SC 1), filed by the owners of the newspapers.

2. Mr. Pervez Shaukat, President PFUJ states that directions be issued to the Chairman (ibid) to ensure release of salary of current month to the employees according to the Award; we are of the opinion that since the Chairman (ibid), present before the Court, has ensured implementation of the Wage Award in letter and spirit, no specific directions can be issued for implementation of the Award for a specific month, however, the Chairman (ibid) is directed to do the needful, so the respondents/ Newspapers employees may not have to approach this Court for implementation of the Award.

CMA stands disposed of accordingly.”
