SP among 6 policemen injured in protesters’ attack in IOK

Jammu, December 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, six Indian police personnel, including top ranking official were injured when people attacked a police party, carrying polling staff in Kalakote area of Jammu.

The police resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters. “The situation is tense but under control as additional police force was deployed there,” the police said. Earlier in the day, there was a minor scuffle between the workers of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and National Conference over allegations of bogus voting.

“The situation escalated after the polling when some people blocked the road at Sialsu in Kalakote to lodge the protest. As the police party carrying staff reached there and tried to disperse the protesters, they attacked them with stones,” said officials.

Six personnel including Additional SP, Rakesh Kumar, was injured in the stone-pelting. “Police personnel fired rubber bullets in the air and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesters. No civilian was injured in the incident,” they added. Five vehicles of the police party were also damaged in the incident.
