Sindh Governor donates angioplasty kits for Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases patients

Karachi, March 06, 2014 (PPI-OT): Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has donated angioplasty kits, comprising medicated stents and essential disposables, to facilitate one of the most needed medical treatments for many of the resourceless patients attended at the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD).

The donation was in response to reported difficulties faced by poor patients at KIHD exposed to severe financial crunch for past several months. Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan taking notice of the situation had only recently announced a support package, comprising 2000 angioplasty kits for needy patients of KIHD.

Under first phase of the package 300 medicated stents and other disposables have already been provided and successfully administered upon around 60 poor patients admitted to KIHD. A committee has also been formed to ensure transparency is application of kits and execution of the procedure itself.

Many of the people with meager resources had to purchase costly stents themselves so as to save lives of their dear ones in a situation when the facility is not available at affordable charges even in other government hospitals.

As regard financial difficulties faced by Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases Rs. 50 rupees are being charged as OPD fee and Rs. 100 as emergency token while all available treatment are provided free of cost to the patients.
