Silence sit-in in Srinagar against enforced disappearances

Srinagar, July 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the organization of relatives of disappeared persons, Forum for Justice held a silence protest sit-in at the Press Colony in Srinagar for safe recovery of their nears and dears.

The relatives of the disappeared persons in large number participated in the sit-in and demanded the recovery of their relatives. The participants were holding banners and placards in their hands inscribed with the slogans like, “We want safe recovery of our sons and brothers” and “We want to know whereabouts of our disappeared sons”.

On the occasion, President of the organisation, Zahoor Ahmad Mir appealed to the international human rights organizations especially the UN Secretary General to put pressure on India to stop human rights violations in the territory and release all the disappeared persons. He also stressed the civil society members of India to support the people of Kashmir in their struggle.

A woman participant said that she should be given the bodies of her disappeared family members or should be informed about their whereabouts. She urged the world community to put pressure on New Delhi to recover the disappeared persons without further delay.

A small girl on the occasion said that the Indian army disappeared her brother, Manzoor Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Nabi Dar some 15 years back and, so far, neither was he recovered nor they know about his location.
