Shutdown, demos in Baramulla against arrest of youth

Srinagar, November 24, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Baramulla town against the arrest of several youth by the Indian police from various localities.

All shops, business establishments, financial institutions, and petrol pumps remained closed while the movement of traffic on the otherwise busy roads of the town was affected due to the shutdown. The arrested youth include Abdul Qayoom Najar, Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, Nazim Mir, Adil Mir, Sameer Butt, Irshad Mir, Shahid Mir and Mohammad Rafiq Dar.

Amid shutdown, groups of youth appeared at Bus Stand, Taxi Stand, Tehsil Chowk, Main Chowk and Khanpora areas of the town and staged demonstrations against the arrest of the youth. Indian police and troops used batons and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
