Secretary Kerry’s Meeting With Holy See Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin

Secretary Kerry met with Holy See Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin today in New York, where they addressed a range of global issues. Secretary Kerry and Secretary Parolin discussed the humanitarian situation in Syria and reiterated their mutual support for a cessation of hostilities and political progress. The Secretaries remarked on our shared interest in combatting the threat of Da'esh and preventing further persecution of religious and ethnic minorities.

Both leaders expressed their profound concern for the plight of migrants and the need to support the commitments made at the Refugee Summit. Secretary Kerry commended the efforts of the Holy See and His Holiness Pope Francis to bring the refugee crisis to the world's attention.

On the issue of ongoing violence in Ukraine, Secretary Kerry and Secretary Parolin stressed the need for full implementation of Minsk and an end to the violence.
