Right to Information Legislation on the anvil: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Spokesman

Peshawar, July 29 2013 (PPI-OT): A spokesman of the Information Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has stated that the Right to Information Ordinance, 2013 has been given a final shape and after completion of a few codal formalities, it shall be presented to the Governor for signature and thereby promulgated as an Ordinance. A bill on Right to Information (RTI) shall then be tabled in the Provincial Assembly within the mandatory period of 90 days, for enactment as a law.

With regard to a comment about the RTI in a local newspaper, it may be clarified that the draft ordinance which was studied by certain human right bodies like CPDI etc was the initial draft, which has been amended significantly, so as to make, it truly responsive to the needs of the citizens seeking information. The spokesman further added that the Information Department is confident that the RTI law of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shall grab a very high position in the international rankings.
