Protesters subjected to brute force in occupied Kashmir

Srinagar, July 27 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, at least four persons, including a journalist, were injured in Pulwama town when Indian police resorted to brute force against the peaceful protesters. People took to the streets in Pulwama and staged demonstrations against the recent incident of desecration of Quran and killing of protesters by Indian troops in Gool area of Ramban. Indian police and paramilitary personnel resorted to tear smoke shelling and baton charge to disperse the protestors resulting in injuries to four people including a local journalist, Muhammad Ashraf.

People also staged demonstrations in Srinagar, Gool, Tral, Shopian, Qazigund, Sopore, Baramulla and Kralpora areas against the Gool incident. The police used brute force on the demonstrators at many places. The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the troops involved in the Gool killings.

On the other hand, complete shutdown was observed in Qazigund town against the continued detention of youth arrested by the police last week.

At least 18 youth from different area of the town were arrested by the police during nocturnal raids for participating in protests against civilian killings in Gool.
