Prime Minister’s message on World Accreditation Day

Islamabad, June 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan is proud to join the world community in celebrating World Accreditation Day on 9th June, 2012. The day is celebrated around the world to create awareness about the importance of accreditation in protecting the consumers’ rights by ensuring safety of products and processes.

This year’s theme i.e. role of accreditation in “supporting safe food and clean drinking water” has implications for countries like Pakistan.

In this era of globalization, movement of food items form farm to house requires utmost caution to avoid any contamination which may pose hazards to human health.

It is extremely important that our consumers have assurance of safety and security of food and water that they utilize.

This calls for application of common food safety management systems, which are supported by credible testing and regular inspections.

Accreditation provides assurance and guarantee in the competence and integrity of conformity assessment bodies, which are responsible to ensure implementation of all the required standards, regulations and other government policies in this regard.

I believe that collaboration of Pakistan National Accreditation Council with different international bodies such as International Accreditation Forum (IAF), International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), Asia Pacific Lab Accreditation Cooperating (APLAC), Pacific Accreditation Cooperation and other regional organizations (PAC) will enable it to benefit from experiences of these global bodies.

Such cooperation cannot only go a long way in ensuring safe and healthy food for our consumers but also make Pakistani products more reliable and trustworthy in the international market.

I am pleased that PNAC has also achieved a landmark by recently launching Halal Accreditation Scheme that will open Halal Market to entrepreneurs of Pakistan.

I hope that PNAC will extend its scope of accreditation so as to include all the sectors in future. It will also continue to make efforts to deliver sound and reliable accreditation services through regular and rigorous evaluation in accordance with international standards and guidelines.
