Preliminary probe rejects BSF’S ‘self defence’ claim

Srinagar, July 20 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the police have strongly rejected the ‘self defence’ theory projected by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) after opening fire at civilians in Gool area of Ramban, killing 4 persons and injuring around 42 others on Thursday.

A local English daily quoting its sources in its report said that the preliminary report submitted by the police and intelligence wing of the occupied territory, CID, had pointed out that the firing from the BSF camp was uncalled for and the police should have been instead allowed to handle the situation.

The daily said that the puppet administration had been informed that the firing from the BSF personnel was so intense and indiscriminate that even a BSF man and two cops received bullet injuries. The investigations have further pointed out that killing of government lecturer, Manzoor Ahmed, in the first instance, clearly looked to be a target killing.

Most of the villagers, the daily said, injured in the firing have received bullet injuries above their abdomen “which also shows that the firing was indiscriminate and without application of mind.”

On the other hand, the BSF camp in Dharam area of Gool was removed and replaced by the local police. The local villagers in the area had demanded the shifting of BSF troops from the camp before proceeding for funeral.

In yet another related development, three FIRs were registered against the BSF officials and the police personnel based on locals’ complaints in connection with firing on protesters.
