PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Transporters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be offered as much incentives as being given to transporters in other provinces – Minister for Transport

Peshawar, June 01, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Transport and Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain has assured the transporters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that they would be offered as much incentives as being given to transporters in other provinces and necessary amendments may also be made in the Transport Act, if the need be.

These views he expressed while talking to the transporters of Hazara Division on Thursday. Provincial Ministers Ahmad Hussain Shah and Qazi Muhammad Asad were also present on this occasion. Both Ministers who also hail from Hazara, informed the Transport Minister of the problems of transporters of Hazara.

Mian Iftikhar on this occasion extended the renewal period of old vehicles by two years and clarified to them that no further extension would be given to all such vehicles after lapse of the said period. He said that permits of old vehicles would not be extendable after computerization of the Transport Department.

The Transport Minister said that his government’s transport policy aimed at giving better transport facilities to the commuters as well as relief to the transporters at the same time. He on this occasion admitted that there might be certain irregularities in transport sector as there was no regular transport department in the past. He vowed that no such irregularity would take place in the transport department in future adding that it would be made transport friendly department in real sense.

The Minister directed the authorities concerned to study the Transport Act of other provinces and submit a report to him in this respect. He assured the transporters that we would review the criteria of judging the vehicles on the basis of its condition instead of its model as per their demand.

The Provincial Minister further directed that to immediately cancel the route permits wrongly issued for the routes of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in other provinces by replacing it with new one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Ministers and transporters thanked the Transport Minister for giving patience hearing to their problems and resolved most of their issues on the spot.
