PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – National Accountability Bureau arrests director of Callmate telips in a reference amounting to Rs. 6 billion

Karachi, June 01, 2012 (PPI-OT): A complaint was registered with NAB regarding M/S Callmate Telips Telecom Limited (“CTTL”) for being allegedly involved in corruption and corrupt practices, cheating the public at large and causing major loss to the national exchequer. On receiving the complaint an investigation against the Directors of Callmate Telips Telecom Limited was launched.

During the course of the investigation, it was noted that Callmate emerged as a result of a merger between Telefon International Project Services (Private) Limited with Calltell (Private) Limited in 2003. From 2003 till 2008, the company cheated the public and government of more than Rs. 6.0 Billion.

Number of illegal actions regarding purchase of properties, insider trading in KSE, Non payment of dues to PTA and PTCL, blockage of Calling Cards issued in the public were the main source of transferring money from company account to private accounts.

After the completion of investigation, reference was filed in the Accountability court. Accountability court issued Non-Bailable Warrants of all accused. One of the accused Directors Hasan Jamil Ansari has been arrested on 31st May 2012 and produced before the Judge of Accountability Court who remanded him to Judicial Custody.
