Poor Law and Order Situation Prevailing in Karachi

Karachi, June 23, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), being the apex body of trade and Industry in Pakistan, has expressed serious concern over deterioration in the law and order situation in Karachi over the past few days, wherein an escalation in criminal activities has been witnessed. Recent media reports have mentioned an alarming rise in bank robberies worth millions of Rupees.

In this connection, recently one incidence of dacoity occurred at the residence of Mr. Shakil Ahmed Dhingra, Vice President FPCCI and the other deprived Sheikh Manzar Alam, Chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on Press and Media of money and other valuables at Vita Chowrangi, within the space of less than one week.

FPCCI strongly condemns both the incidences. While robberies at shops and at homes are fast becoming a major nuisance to the business community, the ongoing trend of extortion adds further to the problems of traders and industrialists.

It is crucial to understand the business community of any country is the backbone of the national economy. Unless businessmen are allowed to work in an environment of safety and security, the country will never prosper.
The Government should take serious action to alleviate the condition of law and order that is adversely affecting the growth of our economy. All arms of the Government should work together to ensure that the citizens of Karachi are provided protection from miscreants.
