Pakistan will decide to join contact group after report of technical group regarding Montreal protocol amendment: Minister

Islamabad, August 11, 2015 (PPI-OT):Ms. Penh Borany, Director National Security Council, United States of America called on Federal Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan in his office today and invited to join contact Group. The contact Group is an administrative forum to provide a platform to member countries to discuss amendment and negotiation process of Montreal protocol.

We will take input of all stake holders for joining the Contact group and final decision will be taken after analyzing the report of technical group “,Said by Federal minister. He also highlighted that Climate Change is an international issue but major consequences are faced by the countries who contributed less in GHG emissions. Pakistan stands as 3rd for its vulnerability to climate change.

Federal Minister also informed them about the initiatives taken by the ministry to deal this problem. “The ministry formulated a think tank and forest policy to deal with this global issue”, emphasized by the minister.

“This is an important concern for the Obama administration and will be an important agenda of their next election campaign. They need to play a proactive role to deal with issue”, expressed by the Federal Minister. The delegation also appreciated efforts of ministry to handle this global issue and their proactive role to consider it a serious issue.
