Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is constantly monitoring SIM Issue

Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has said that in view to facilitate mobile phone users PTA is continuously monitoring re-verification process of mobile phone users data. It has directed mobile operators to ensure facilitation of consumers at their Customer Service Centres (CSCs) who are approaching for correction of their connection details. For the convenience of mobile phone consumers CSCs are making all efforts to facilitate the consumers.

It may be added that in a comprehensive effort to register the SIMs against CNICs of the actual users, PTA has initiated intelligent blocking from May 18th 2011 where 0.875 million left over targeted mobile connections has been blocked as a first batch. During the intelligent blocking a particular SIM/connection shall only be allowed to call 789 for re-verification of user’s antecedents.

The 789 system is an automated real time verification system where a customer has to approach Call Centre of the concerned mobile company by dialling short code 789 and re-register and verify his antecedents through NADRA’s database by answering mandatory secret questions i.e. mother’s name and place of birth so as to activate non-active SIM. The call making facility of these SIMs has been stopped and they can only dial helpline 789.
