Pakistan State Oil signs Memorandum of Understanding with Forest and Wildlife Department of Balochistan Government
Karachi, June 06, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan State Oil (PSO), the nations leading Energy Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Forest and Wildlife Department, Government of Balochistan for the establishment of a 5,000 acre bio-diesel agricultural estate located at Uthal, Balochistan.
The signing ceremony was held at PSO House and the signatories were Mr. Naeem Yayha Mir, MD and CEO-PSO and Mr. Ahmed Ali, Secretary- Forest and Wildlife Department, Government of Balochistan. Also present on this historic occasion were Mr. Azam Deputy Secretary Forest and Wildlife (GoB), Mr. Navaid Alam Zuberi, Senior General Manager (Projects)-PSO and Mr. Nawaid Anjum Zaidi, Head of New Business Development-PSO.
A pioneer in the oil sector, PSO is striving to identify and overcome the energy challenges facing our country. In this regard PSOs New Business Development department had previously established an agricultural estate at Pipri Marshalling Yard (PMY) for the cultivation and extraction of bio-diesel from the seeds of the Jathropa Curcas plant.
On successful completion of the plant life-cycle and extraction of bio-diesel, the company also carried out product testing by running company vehicles exclusively on this environment friendly fuel. With the signing of this MoU, PSO is moving forward with its plan for introducing Jathropa cultivation on a commercial level to set up a pilot project at Uthal as a first step towards mass-cultivation in coordination with the Government of Balochistan.
The successful implementation of this project will provide numerous environmental and economical benefits including learning and career opportunities for students, introduce the latest in green fuel technology to the local farmers, and serve as a technical hub for replication on a larger scale.
This initiative is another first in a long line of achievements for PSO, however, it is not the end. Dedicated to serving the energy needs of the nation, PSO is cognizant of its responsibilities and will continue to stand by the country at all times.
