OIC-IPHRC to hold session on ‘Importance of Cultural Diversity in promotion and protection of human rights’

Jeddah The OIC's Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) will hold its 12th Regular Session and Thematic Debate on 'Importance of Cultural Diversity in the promotion and protection of human rights' at its headquarters from November 19 to 23 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Experts from relevant international and regional organizations and senior officials of the OIC General Secretariat and media representatives will also participate in different meetings.

The Commission is expected to hold detailed discussions on all issues on its agenda, including the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights in the OIC member states, the human rights violations against Palestinian people and in the Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Also, the four Working Groups of the Commission on Palestine; Rights of Women and Child; Islamophobia and Muslim minorities; and the Right to Development will discuss and adopt reports and studies carried out by the Commission Members.

On 21st November, the Commission will hold an open-ended thematic debate on 'Importance of Cultural Diversity in the promotion and protection of human rights.' Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen, secretary general of the OIC and IPHRC Chairperson Med. S. K. Kaggwa will inaugurate the debate, which will be attended by experts from different relevant international and regional organizations as well as representatives of OIC member and observer states including their National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs).

Besides, the regular proceedings of the Session, this time, the IPHRC Secretariat in collaboration with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights shall be organizing a workshop on Thursday 23 November. The workshop is intended to impart orientation/training to the Commission Members, Members of the IPHRC and OIC General Secretariat as well as the representatives of the Member and Observer States on areas related to a) Human Rights Council mechanisms such as Universal Periodic Review, Advisory Committee and Special Procedures; and b) UN Treaty bodies system including how to write periodic reports and related aspects.
