Net foreign investment down by 60.6%YoY in 11MFY12 – Alfalah Securities Limited

Karachi, June 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): Net foreign investment in Pakistan fell by 60.6% to USD721.4 mn in the 11MFY12 mainly due to an outflow of USD 35 mn in Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) against an inflow of USD 368 mn in the same period last year as the foreign investors have been reluctant in extending investment in Pakistan.

According to Alfalah Securities Limited, the foreign direct investment (FDI) also fell by 48%YoY to USD 756.4 mn in 11MFY12 due to energy crisis, unclear economic policies and deteriorated law and order situation. On MoM basis, the performance of foreign private investment stood at USD 126.8 mn in May 2012 as against USD 210 mn in May 2011 which was contributed by FPI of USD 36.7 mn and FDI of USD 90.2 mn.
