Naveed Directs Distribution Companies to Recover Amount from Defaulters
Islamabad: Federal Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar has said that stern action will be taken against the CEOs of power distribution companies who will not recover the amount from the running defaulters within 60 days.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of the Discos here today to review their performance and recovery. Secretary, MD PEPCO and CEOs of all the Discos attended.
While taking serious notice of less recovery from the running defaulters during last two months, he asked them to start effective campaign against the defaulters and recover the complete amount from them. He said that improvement in the recovery will help to enhance fuel supply to power units resultantly increase in the power generation.
The Minister directed that action will be taken against the CEO of the respective company who will fail to recover the electricity dues from running defaulters within 60 days as well as SE, XEN and SDO after 30 days.
He asked them to give targets to the SEs, Xen’s and SDO’s to ensure recovery from the running defaulters. The field officers will be evaluated on the results of targets achieved by them during last three months for further promotion.
He also asked them to take severe action against the power theft and reduce line losses. He again directed the Discos to disconnect the supply of consumers without any discrimination in case of non-payment of bills after 60 days. The Minister stated that there should be no complaints of inflated bills by the consumers and the officials involved should be taken to task.
The complaints of low voltage and short circuiting must be addressed immediately. The field staff may be asked to adopt friendly attitude with the consumers, he added. He also said that the government has planned to appoint CEOs of Discos from private sector to improve efficiency.
Earlier, the CEOs of the Discos briefed the minister on the recovery status, line losses and upgradation of system.
