Mirwaiz Maulana Yousuf Shah remembered in IOK

Srinagar, July 28 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, glowing tributes were paid to the renowned political, religious and spiritual leader of Kashmir and the former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz Maulana Muhammad Yousuf Shah.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a special Quran Khwani session was held at the headquarters of Awami Action Committee, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in connection with his 46th death anniversary. It was attended by noted religious scholars, ulema and AAC activists.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, presided over a big gathering at Aali Masjid in Srinagar to pay tributes to Maulana Yousuf Shah also known as Mahajir-e-Millat. A large number of scholars, ulema, students and representatives of political and religious organizations participated in the gathering. The participants offered special prayers for the late Maulana and martyrs of Kashmir.

Addressing on the occasion, the Mirwaiz eulogized the sacrifices of Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah and his companions who laid the foundation of the Kashmiris’ struggle for right to self-determination.

Terming the contribution of Mahajir-e-Millat in freedom struggle as golden chapter in the history of Kashmir, the APHC Chairman said that the Maulana was the only leader who did not compromise on his stand and chose to live a life in exile. “In 1955, the government of India allowed late Mirwaiz to come back, but put a condition that he should not fight for the Kashmir cause. He decided to live in exile than to go for a compromise,” he added.

The APHC Chairman called upon the ulema and intellectuals to devote their attention to allay problems facing the Muslims including the recent painful incidents of sectarian skirmishes in Badgam district.

Meanwhile, the APHC spokesman in a statement castigated the pro-India National Conference leader, Dr Mustafa Kamal, for hurling baseless allegations against Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. “It is a known fact that NC dragged Kashmiris into the quagmire of slavery and unleashed limitless oppression on them. The NC leadership is still engaged in bloodshed of Kashmiris and the recent incident at Gool is the example of it. They do it only to keep the Indian government in good humour,” he maintained.
