Minister of Interior visits Federal Investigation Agency Headquarters

Islamabad, July 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan chaired a high level meeting in FIA headquarters here today.

DG FIA gave a detailed briefing about the structure, functions and performance of FIA to the Federal Minister.

The Minister said that he wanted to make FIA as a beacon of hope and a catalyst in dispensation of justice to people of Pakistan.

He added FIA needs to transform itself into a people friendly organization which not only enjoys the confidence of people of Pakistan but also through its commitment and performance becomes a pride of Pakistan.

FIA needs to come out of notorious past syndrome and immediately start functioning as the premier investigating agency of the country.

The Minister resolved that he wanted to revamp FIA by replacing inefficient and corrupt officers with those having integrity and clean track record. He said that not a single corrupt element would be tolerated in FIA anymore.

He said that there would be zero tolerance for illegal immigration because they bring bad name to Pakistan. Strict action should also be taken against those elements that organize and finance theses illegal immigrants.

Certain decisions were also taken in the meeting regarding creation of Accountability Unit in FIA, Anti-Electricity theft cell, Immigration Vigilance Unit and Anti-money laundering and asset tracking units.

It was also decided to raise a special elite squad of FIA to help its fight against crime and corruption.

The Minister also decided to repatriate all those deputationists brought in FIA political basis and to strengthen accountability at all levels. He added that he would monitor the performance of FIA on monthly basis. The Secretary Interior, DG FIA and other senior officers of FIA participated in the meeting.
