Minister Kamran Michael intervenes to end strike at Port Qasim

Karachi, May 05, 2016 (PPI-OT):The federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael intervenes to end 26 days strike of PQA Dock Labour who are though not the employees of Port Qasim but have contributed a lot in the establishment of Port Qasim to bring it at stage that the port today is the second port of Karachi.

The Dock Labour of PQA has held sit-in at National Highway for the last 26 days and the Minister Kamran Michael has assured them that their rights remained protected in the wake of all the developments taking place at Port Qasim. He complimented the role that the Dock Labour force plays in Port Qasim and said that a committee of Port Qasim and Ministry of Ports and Shipping is formed to look into all issues related to them while speaking at the Workers Convention at Port Qasim.

In his speech on the occasion, the federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael highlighted that the establishment of LNG Terminal at Port Qasim in a short span of 11 months reflects high on the achievements made by the present government. He termed the LNG Terminal as gift to nation from the honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

He said that work of establishing 1360 MW Power Plant is speedily in progress at Port Qasim and that all this has become possible through the sheer efforts of workers. He further said that the Bulk Coal Terminal will also attain completion in December this year. Complimenting the efforts of PQA workforce which has resulted in increasing the cargo handling activities, Senator Kamran Michael announced a bonus for them on the occasion which was warmly welcomed by the gathering at PQA.
