Minister for Planning and Development urged to revisit policies of previous Government

Karachi, July 20 2013 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the federal minster planning and development Ahsan Iqbal to make sure that the policies are pragmatic and are implementable and also to revisit the trade, industrial, SME, food storage, reservation and security policies made by the previous government and align it to make them implementable in the near future otherwise they will simply remain as documents of unimplemented policies.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said it is very important that the trade policy needs to promote exports, protect the domestic industry and promote import of industrial raw material from most favoured nations (MFN) on reciprocal basis.

The trade policy needs to be revisited in view of the recent enhanced trade agreements with China in the energy sector. The export import bank (EXIM) needs to be established to finance the export and import trade to boost exports to third world countries.
The industrial policy needs revamping for promotion of industrialization on fast track basis with industrial estates and special economic zones developed on state of the art and built in energy generation systems and modern facilities. The promotion of products made from indigenous raw material and import substitution industries needs special planning and handsome budget for infrastructure.

The SME policy needs to be looked into for implementation as the SME export house, technical institute for filling the technological gap, insurance to make the banks comfortable in financing the sector, chamber of commerce and industry, ombudsman for the redress of grievances, venture capital, SME specific bank remain to be established.

The union expressed confidence in the capabilities of the federal minister Ahsan Iqbal and offered full co-operation and support in the framing, redesigning and implementation of pragmatic policies and reminded him that the SME sector is the majority sector and deserves his best consideration in the framing of the national policies.
