Minister for Overseas Pakistanis chairs meeting of workers welfare fund

Islamabad, December 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Pir Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi, chaired a meeting of senior officers of Workers Welfare Fund, Workers Welfare Board, Sindh at camp office Karachi to review the ongoing development projects being executed by Workers Welfare Board Sindh and funded by Workers Welfare Fund, Islamabad.

The meeting was also attended by the Secretary, Labour Department, Government of Sindh. The Secretary, Workers Welfare Fund, Islamabad gave a detailed presentation and briefing to the participants. Senator Syed Muazaffar Hussain Shah also attended the meeting on the special invitation of the Federal Minister.

After receiving detailed briefing, the Minister directed officers of Workers Welfare Fund and Workers Welfare Board for early completion of the ongoing projects and emphasized to maintain transparency in the execution of the projects.

He also directed that relevant authorities may be approached for vacation of apartments/flats occupied by illegal occupants. He reiterated that the Government is committed to provide maximum relief to the industrial workers therefore flats being constructed for labours at Sukkur, Benazirabad (Nawabshah) and at Sajawal be completed at the earliest to provide shelter to them.

He directed to initiate similar welfare projects including education, health etc at other labour sites in Sindh as the Province is generating largest funds along with other provinces.

A committee will be constituted to assess suitability of sites already available for initiation of welfare projects in Sindh. The Minister also directed that WWF should ensure that the funds are utilized for the betterment of labourers as per its mandate.
