Minister for Education was briefed on the role of Education Management Information System Cell
Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education (E and SE), Sardar Hussain Babak was briefed today on the role of Education Management Information System (EMIS) Cell of the Department in the Committee Room of E and SE Department. During the briefing Farid Qureshi, Special Secretary E and SE Department, Riaz Bahar, Director Education Sector Reforms Unit (ESRU) of E and SE Department, Rafiq Khattak, Additional Director Establishment, Directorate of E and SE, Bashir Hussain Shah, Additional Director (P and D), directorate of E and SE, Iltaf Hussain, Deputy Director EMIS, Salahuddin, Deputy Database Administrator EMIS and other staff of EMIS Cell. Giving background of EMIS Cell, the minister was informed that EMIS was established in 1990-91 in Directorate of E and SE but later on it was restructured in 2006 under the direct control of Secretary E and SE.
The EMIS Cell has so far published 20 statistical reports of government schools, 03 of private schools and one of Deeni Madaris in the whole province. Briefing the minister on the recently held Annual Schools Census (ASC) 2010-11, statistical report of government schools which was held on 31st October 2010, it was noted that during the academic year 2010-11 the overall situation of the education has been improved.
The number of primary schools has been increased to 22608 from 22398 while the number of secondary schools has been increased to 4599 from 4509. The enrolment increased by 5%, at primary level from 2654285 to 2776642 and at secondary level from 942795 to 987154. The number of working teachers has been increased by 1% from 114569 to 115714.
Similarly, the Gross enrolment Ration (GER) at primary level has been increased by 2 %from 83% to 85%. The transition rate from primary to middle level has been increased by 1 % while the dropout rate has been decreased by 4% compared to previous year. The gender gap has been decreased by 2 % from 0.72 to 0.74 giving positive and achievement towards female education by the resent government.
The Minister E and SE was also informed about the Geographic Information System (GIS) component of EMIS which is a tool for planning, monitoring/evaluation and better decision making and it was noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the first province having this tool. Besides the above teacher’s database developed by EMIS was also presented and it was decided that in future a copy of all the posting/transfer orders/notifications should be sent to EMIS Cells both at district and provincial level in order to keep the data updated and it should be linked with the PIFRA System of AG Office.
Giving his remarks the minister appreciated the efforts of EMIS and stressed for proper utilization of the information generated in all the future planning and decision makings.
