Message of President Mamnoon Hussain on Iqbal Day

Islamabad, November 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): The commemoration of birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal is indeed an occasion not only to recall the message that he propounded but also to ponder how far we have been successful in following the path that was shown to us by the great poet-philosopher.

The vision of this great philosopher not only inspired the Muslims to work towards realizing his dream of a separate homeland but also ignited their imaginations with the true spirit of their religion. It was Allama Iqbal who awakened the Muslims from their deep slumber and rekindled the spirit among them to seek their true identity and to discover, cultivate and assert “khudi” for individual as well as collective progress and prosperity.

Challenging the stereotypes and rejecting dogmatism, Iqbal stood for critical inquiry and underscored the need for rethinking to keep pace with the needs of changing times. Allama Iqbal urged the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to lead Muslims of the sub continent in their struggle for freedom.

Read and appreciated worldwide, Iqbal used his wisdom and power of pen for the revival of the lost glory of the Muslims and for articulating the pristine message of our religion. The need to understand his message was never as great as it is today. The best way to pay homage to this visionary leader is to make sincere efforts towards understanding the real message of Islam.

Let us therefore on his 136th birth anniversary reiterate to continue making efforts for translating his vision into reality and strive harder for achieving ideals as envisioned by the great poet-philosopher.
