Meeting of Task Force on missing persons held

Islamabad, July 29 2013 (PPI-OT): The Task Force on Missing Persons held an exhaustive meeting in the Ministry of Interior today, deliberating on the different legal, humanitarian and socio-political aspects of the case.

The meeting was chaired by Secretary Interior. Secretary Defense also participated in the meeting.

A Sub-Committee was constituted under the Additional Secretary-I, comprising of the senior officers from Attorney General’s office, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Law, ISI and also the Registrar of the Commission on the Enforced Disappearances.

The task of the Sub-Committee would be to finalize its recommendations in four days and indicate future course of action and to construct an action plan.

Related issues like strengthening of laws, illegal confinements, sectarianism and extension of the outreach to the provincial governments were also discussed in the meeting. Various proceedings in the Supreme Court on the issue of Missing Persons were also taken cognizance of.
