Meeting of Secretary Information Technology with Chief Executive Officer’s of Cellular Companies to Contribute to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund

Islamabad: A meeting was held between CEO’s of various cellular companies and Federal Secretary for Information Technology and Telecom, Saeed Ahmed Khan on Wednesday 21st September, 2011.

The meeting primarily focused on the recent floods in Sindh and the extent of devastation in flood affected areas. Secretary IT reiterated that telecom sector should come forward to reduce the miseries of flood affected people.

In this regard he directed the telecom operators to contribute philanthropically to the Prime Minister’s flood relief fund. Moreover it was also decided to launch SMS service to collect funds for alleviating the miseries of flood affected people.

Representatives of the Multinet Company briefed the Secretary IT about relief activities in flood affected areas.

Various issues regarding telecom sector were also discussed in the meeting. Secretary IT pointed out that Ministry of Information Technology is doing its best to overcome the barriers in the way of introducing 3G technology. At the end Secretary IT and Telecom Saeed Ahmed Khan invited comprehensive suggestions from the telecom operators to upgrade the Telecom Policy 2004.

All the telecom operators including Mobilink, Ufone, Wateen, Telenor etc assured their contributions in Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

Additional Secretary Nadeem Ashraf, Member Telecom, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah and Director Wireless Mudassar Hussain were also present in the meeting.
