The meeting was also attended by other members of the SCBA including Aftab Bajwa, Secretary General, Aslam Ghuman, Additional Secretary, Ghulam Mustafa Kundiwal, Member, Pakistan Bar Council and Members of Punjab Bar Council.

The Chairman thanked the honourable members for inviting him for dinner and giving opportunity to explain various problems and complaints being faced by overseas Pakistanis in various courts. He told the meeting that overseas Pakistanis contribute over 20 billion US dollars per annum and their love and patriotism is unparalleled. However, many of them feel betrayed because of inordinate delays in the adjudication of their cases in various cases in the courts.

Barrister Amjad Malik requested the President SCBA to advise the lawyers’ community to handle cases related overseas Pakistanis in sensitive manner and do their best to resolve their litigation in the shortest possible time. He requested Mr. Kundiwal to direct all the member Bars to dispose of cases involving overseas Pakistanis in a speedy manner.

Barrister Malik informed the meeting that he has met with Secretary Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan with the request to amend the National Judicial Policy making it mandatory to dispose of the cases of overseas Pakistanis within six months. He said that a formal letter has also been sent to Secretary Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan so that changes may be made to National Judicial Policy binding the judges of the trail and applet courts to dispose of the cases of overseas Pakistanis in a speedy manner within six months.

He further said that China and India have become major economic powers primarily because of the role of overseas Chinese and Indians in development of their countries. Similarly, overseas Pakistanis have all the capabilities and resolve to lift Pakistan to new heights. However, inordinate delay in disposal of litigation related to their proprieties and other disputes scares them away. Therefore, it is in the national interest that all stakeholders in the criminal justice system in the country must come forward to help our people living abroad so that they can play their role in national development.
