Media campaign against appointment of Auditor General regretted
Islamabad: A government spokesman has regretted the campaign unleashed in the media about the appointment of Mr. Akhtar Buland Rana, as the Auditor General of Pakistan.
The spokesman said that the officer was the senior most officer of Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service in BPS-22 and was serving as the Additional Auditor General Pakistan before his present appointment which reflected his competence and requisite experience so important for holding the constitutional position.
The spokesman said that a malicious campaign was underway to belittle the senior officer without plausible reason and in utter disregard to the moral and professional ethics.
The spokesman said that it was quite in accordance with the law to hold dual nationality by the citizens of the Commonwealth countries. Under the law, officers in the Government of Pakistan service are not barred from possessing dual national, the spokesman added.
The allegation against the officer of holding more than one national identity cards is also wrong because the officer like all citizens of this country is holding one computerized identity card and to construe it otherwise is factually and ethically wrong. One can imagine to what extent the spin doctors have gone to express their ire in case of Akhtar Buland Rana, the spokesman added.
The spokesman observed that appointment of Mr. Rana is based on merit and law. The office of the Auditor General of Pakistan is a constitutional office and it should not be made object of any one’s personal likes or dislikes.
