Masters Champions League to bring back cricket legends: Javed Malik

Islamabad, June 10, 2015 (PPI-OT): Masters Champions League (MCL) was launched in Dubai in presence of Pakistan’s Ambassador at Large, Javed Malik, and great cricket legends like Wasim Akram, Brain Lara, Adam Gilchrest, Graham Gooch, Alan Border and the chairman of MCL, Zafar Sha, says a press release received here today from Dubai.

Ambassador Javed Malik appreciated the initiative to launch Masters Champions League at the prolific Burj Al Arab by Mr. Zafar Shah, Chairman GM Sports, and said “I am delighted to be here along with cricket icons like Wasim Akram, Brian Lara and other icons and we are all looking forward to seeing some of them in action again, and I must compliment Mr.

Zafar Shah for not only conceiving the idea but also taking the initiative to launch MCL in such a wonderful way. I am particularly appreciative of MCL because this unique concept will not only create an opportunity for retired cricket stars return to international cricket again, but also allow fans around the world to witness some of the greatest icons of cricket in action again!.

He expressed the confidence that some of the retired Pakistani cricketers will also take part in the league and said that “the presence of Wasim Akram, the former captain of Pakistan is a very encouraging sign and more Pakistani cricketers are expected to join the teams in the coming days”. Wasim Akram appreciated the idea and assured the organizers of all his support.

Speaking at the ceremony legendary batsman Brian Lara said, “I am thrilled and honoured to be taking part in what promises to be an exceptional display of competitive cricket”. The Chairman of MCL, Mr. Zafar Shah said “We are delighted to have secured the Emirates Cricket Board approval and we are following all ICC guidelines for this tournament, highlighting the importance of having cricket’s governing bodies in support of a successful and well-regulated annual event. MCL aims to start its inaugural games in February, 2016, and Ambassador Javed Malik wished luck to the organizers.
