Local Government Minister urges Officers to improve their Performance
Karachi: Provincial Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani said that complaints of accumulation of water in some areas were received during recent rains in Karachi which had various reasons including failure of sewerage pumping station of KWSB, encroachments along side city drains and other elements.
However if negligence or carelessness of any officer of city government or town administration is proved then action will be taken against him.
He was talking to media representatives after a joint meeting of city government and water board officers in DCO Camp Office on Saturday.
Secretary Local Government Ali Ahmed, Administrator/DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed, M.D KWSB Misbah uddin Farid and other officers were also present on this occasion.
Agha Siraj Durrani said the city had emergency condition during rains and KESC did not cooperate during emergency condition. He said that he had been informed about the 12 hour long power failure at the sewerage pumping station which had resulted in overflow of sewerage water on roads.
The Provincial Minister said he had complained to Chief Minister Sindh about KESC.
He said whatever resources the government had, will be used for serving the people of Karachi and Sindh.
Replying a question, Agha Siraj Durrani said that the government was taking necessary measures for controlling dengue. In Karachi large scale spray had been arranged involving house to house fumigation while spray on area and street level was also started. Number of spray vehicles had been also increased from 20 to 57.
Earlier while addressing the meeting, Provincial Minister for Local Government directed officers to improve their performance in controlling the city condition after rains while taking in view the ground realities. He urged them to take speedy measures for improving the sewerage system and to spray insecticides.
Administrator/DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed said that better coordination among city government, town administration and KWSB was managed during recent rains, however, action had been taken against the officers for committing negligence during rains. All those places were cleaned where water stayed after rain and the spray and repairing and patch working of roads was started in the city.
M.D KWSB Misbah uddin Farid informed the meeting that water board will solve all sewerage problems in the city within 48 hours.
Afterwards the Provincial Minister inspected the Hijrat Colony Nullah from P.I.D.C Bridge and expressed concern over the presence of encroachments alongside nullah, saying that this problem needs permanent solution.
