Lecture series by Professor Tom Christenson concludes at Punjab University
Lahore: Prof Dr Tom Christenson from University of Oslo, Norway delivered last lecture of his series at the Punjab University Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS) on “Comparative University Reform: Lessons for Pakistan” here on Thursday.
In his lecture, Prof Tom shared reform experiences of other countries. He discussed the relationship between public sector reform and university reform. He also discussed the essential features of current university reform. He observed that efficiency, commercialization, materialization and increasing role of superior ministries are the essential features of University reform.
He emphasized that research is the core activity of a university which should not be compromised with teaching and business concern. He argued for a balanced approach to university reform combing international best practices and national traditions.
Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon, while commenting Prof Tom’s lecture, shared Pakistan experience in University reform with the audience. He observed that corporate model of governance and management is being adopted as a University reform model in Pakistan.
He informed the participants that PU has a well funded program of Overseas Faculty Development Program and has recently created a Research Endowment Fund to promote research in the University.
Dean Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences Prof Dr Muhammad Ehsan Malik and Director IAS Prof Dr NasiraJabeen also spoke on the occasion.
