Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry will play its role for early revival of Pak-China Free Trade Agreement

Lahore, October 14, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry will play its role for early revival of Pak-China Free Trade Agreement. The LCCI president Engineer Sohail Lashari, Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah and Vice President Kashif Anwar were talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Paper Merchants Association (APPMA) at the LCCI on Monday.

The 19-member APPMA delegation led by Khamis Saeed Butt and comprising APPMA President Mian Amjad Hussain, Senior Vice President Malik Ahad Amin, Honorary Senior Vice President Khawaja Nadeem Saeed Wayeen, Samiullah Butt, former President APPMA Qayyum Raza and others met LCCI office-bearers to congratulate them.

Engineer Sohail Lashari said that the LCCI would soon be writing letters to Ministry of Commerce and Federal Board of Revenue for renewal of Free Trade Agreement with China. He said that the LCCI would also provide details of the products which are not manufactured in Pakistan so that they could be included in the new FTA.

Over the issues of Sales Tax, Income Tax and Wealth Tax, the LCCI President said that the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif had already constituted two committees with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry that would be looking into the problems being faced by the business community.

He said that one committee has been constituted with Commissioner Lahore that would be looking into the general issues while the other one has been made with Punjab Excise and Taxation Department. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would take up all tax related issues with the Excise and Taxation Committee.

About the shortage of electricity, the LCCI President invited the APPMA members to participate in LCCI plans to produce electricity on self-generation basis. Engineer Sohail Lashari also sought practical proposal from APPMA for construction of Parking Plaza in Urdu Bazar and Gunpat Road. He said that the Chief Minister is a great doer and does not believe in verbal suggestions.

Therefore, APPMA would have to come up with a concrete proposal to ensure the early construction of parking sites. The LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah, in his address, said that that an acute shortage of electricity and deteriorating law and order situation in some parts of the country have pushed the economy to wall at a time when the country is in dire need of an accelerated growth.

He said that in these circumstances, the role of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the country and other sector-specific trade organizations like APPMA, working at the national level, become more important and relevant.

The LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar urged the APPMA office-bearers to continue to guide their members about the happenings at the international economic front so the people attached with the Paper business could be able to do their business with peace of mind. He assured the visiting delegation that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry would continue to support them at all the times to come.
