Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government taking steps to ensure freedom of press and welfare of working journalists: minister

Peshawar, March 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations, Shah Farman has said that the provincial government was taking all out steps to ensure the freedom of press and welfare of the working journalists.

For this purpose, he added, Rs. 50 million have been released during the current financial year for the establishment of Journalists Welfare Fund on provincial level. This, he said, while presiding over a meeting of Journalists Welfare Fund (JWF) committee held at his office on Friday.

On this occasion, Secretary Information Nasir Khan, Assistant Director (PB) Waheedullah, President Peshawar Press Club Nasir Hussain and other concerned officers of Finance and Information departments were also present. The meeting threadbare disclosed and scrutinized all the medical claims of the journalists and took decisions on them as per procedure.

The minister on this occasion approved Rs. 15 thousand on the spot for Reporter Daily Nai Bath Muhammad Naeem and directed the concerned officials to move summary for his financial assistance in light of Provincial Assembly Resolution to the government.

The minister stressed upon the journalist community to come up with positive proposals to the government with special reference to the welfare of the general public, which the minister added, will not only be welcomed but would be given preference in making the development strategy in future.
