Kashmir settlement in its historical perspective stressed

Srinagar, November 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that Kashmir is not a border dispute between Pakistan and India and it should be resolved in its historical perspective keeping in view the aspirations of Kashmiri people.

Syed Ali Gilani, addressing a big public rally in Kupwara said that resolution of the Kashmir dispute was possible by giving the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination. He deplored that the international community had failed to settle the lingering dispute. “The UN and other international bodies want to keep India in a good humour and that is why they have so far failed to resolve this vexed issue,” he added.

The veteran leader urged the Kashmiris to honour the sacrifices rendered by people during the past 66 years and continue the ongoing struggle for achieving their right to self-determination.

“We can’t afford to forget the sacrifices offered by more than 6 lakh Kashmiris in freedom struggle. We can’t forget the Kunan-Poshpora mass rape in which our 53 sisters and daughters were raped on January 25 1990. 50 civilians were burnt alive in Handwara massacre, and on January 27, 1994, 27 Kashmiris were shot dead by Army for observing strike on January 26. As many as 22 school children were drowned by Indian Navy in Wullar Lake. Tabinda Ganai rape and murder case is lingering for past seven years.”

Syed Ali Gilani hailed the people of Kupwara for their pro-freedom sentiments and their sacrifices for the freedom struggle. “Today’s massive gathering is a referendum against occupation of Kashmir by Indian forces and it is a certificate against Indian regime,” he stated.

The veteran leader reiterated his poll boycott call, asking the people to boycott the upcoming elections of the so-called Kashmir Assembly and Indian Parliament. He said that the pro-India parties were power hungry and exploiting people in the name of development. “Whether it is NC, PDP, Congress or any other party, they are collaborators for continuing Indian rule in Kashmir.

Pro-India political politicians are responsible for the mess witnessed by Kashmir since 1947. People should boycott the elections to weaken these politicians,” he added. Earlier, Syed Ali Gilani was given a rousing reception as he reached Kupwara. People raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
