Journalist’s demise widely condoled in IHK

Srinagar, June 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the demise of Abdur Rashid Shahid, former executive editor of a Srinagar-based English daily, Greater Kashmir, has been widely condoled by pro-freedom leaders and organizations and a cross- section of the society.

The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement termed Shahid’s death as his personal loss. “I pray for the departed soul and extend my condolences and sympathy with the bereaved family,” he added.

“We have lost an honest journalist. God had given him numerous skills and he was well versed with both English and Urdu languages,” he said.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik said his demise has inflicted a huge loss to the Kashmir’s journalistic fraternity.

APHC leaders, Agha Syed Al-Mousvi Al-Safvi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and Liberation leader, Javaid Ahmed Mir in their condolence messages said that the deceased was a great journalist full of professional qualities.

Another APHC leader, Zafar Akbar Butt visited his residence along with other members of the Hurriyet and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

Sajjad Ghani Lone and MLA Engineer Abdur Rasheed also expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of the veteran journalist.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement in Islamabad also condoled the demise.
